The Regional Development and Construction Ministry forecasts that housing construction in Ukraine will double to 17.2 mln square meters before 2012.

"The plan to double housing construction before 2012, as compared to 2006, seems rather ambitious, but it would be wrong to limit ourselves with such plans. A great plan always may be cut, but it's impossible to extend a smaller plan," the ministry's press service cited minister Volodymyr Yatsuba as saying.

He also noted that the increase in construction volumes will require additional land resources, general plans of cities and detailed plans of districts.
